Just Adapted Water Sports Camp 5/19/12
05/07/2012

Back in the 80's, a team effort by Saddleback College Adapted Kinesiology Instructors Brian Geier and Ron Hastings, Wheelchair Tennis Legend Brad Parks, and Jan Dowd, Junior Programs Director for the National Foundation of Wheelchair Tennis had a dream of starting a camp for youth with Physical Challenges. That dream came true. 30 years ago, J.A.W.S. (Junior Athletes Wheelchair Sports) was a free sports camp designed for youth 7-23 years of age who use or could use a wheelchair.

JAWS now includes teens and adults with disabilities and has migrated into our community, collaborating with Westwind Sailing to provide sailing, kayaking, and standup paddling.

For the time being JAWS now stands for Just Adapted Water Sports. The benefits of recreation is empowering for people with disabilities to improve their quality of life. The JAWS event brings this awareness to our students, staff, and community… empowering us all!

The JAWS event would not be possible without our many volunteers or our sponors, the Associated Student Government and the National Charity League.

This year's JAWS event takes place at the OC Sailing & Events Center on Saturday, May 19, from 9 am - 1 pm.

For sponsorship, volunteering, or information please visit the Website or contact the Camp Director, Pam Patterson
